What Happens on the Day of Laser Surgery?

You’ve researched the procedures, you have your post-op instructions and eye drops ready to go, but what actually happens on the day of refractive surgery? Many of our patients will comment on how relaxing and calm they found surgery day to be with Clarity Laser Vision. Our team is dedicated to ensuring your surgery day goes smoothly, and that you feel comfortable every step of the way.

Arriving

For your surgery, you will need a family member, friend, or taxi to drive you to your appointment and pick you up afterwards. For safety reasons, we require that you do not drive yourself, walk, or take public transportation alone.

What to Wear

It’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing. Prior to your surgery, our staff will provide you with a stylish surgical cap, foot coverings, and gown to be worn over your clothes.

Comfort

Eye surgery isn’t something people go through every day, and it’s perfectly natural to feel nervous! Our nurses will offer you a mild sedative to keep you at ease. Your heart rate and blood pressure will be checked prior to surgery as well. Feel free to help yourself to our complimentary beverages and light snacks at any time.

Safety

Dr. Al-Ghoul will review all of your previous tests and images performed at your pre-operative consultation, and he may repeat several of these images to ensure your eyes are stable and that it is safe to proceed with refractive surgery. Safety is key at Clarity Laser Vision, and Dr. Al-Ghoul will only give the green light when he is 100% certain that everything is in order and that you’re good to go!

Time for Surgery

Once you are ready for surgery, our team will bring you into the operating room, and help you get comfortable on the operating table. At this point, your only job is to sit back, relax, and follow Dr. Al-Ghoul’s instructions of where to look with your eyes.

The Hard Part’s Over!

After surgery, we recommend you put on those fancy dark glasses from your post-op kit to protect your eyes. Your heart rate and blood pressure will be checked again, and you will remain under observation for a short period of time. Dr. Al-Ghoul may also check your eyes once more through the slit lamp, depending on the type of procedure done. Our staff will go over your medications with you, provide you with Dr. Al-Ghoul’s contact information should you have any questions or concerns, and once your trusty chauffeur arrives, you are free to go home and spend the remainder of your day resting! Find a comfy blanket, put your feet up, listen to a podcast or audiobook. Dr. Al-Ghoul will call you that evening to check in, and we’ll see you the next day to make sure everything looks great and is healing well, but in the meantime give yourself a pat on the back and congratulations on taking a huge step in improving your vision and quality of life!
